Ethereum Draft Seeks Faster Finality With Separate Consensus Mechanisms

The draft assigns chain-head selection to recent votes and block finality to separate validator attestations once they reach the required quorum. It also lists post-quantum readiness among its goals.

Ethereum Improvement Proposal 8453 (EIP-8453) would change Beacon Chain consensus rules to target faster finality and stronger fork-choice security by separating chain selection from finality confirmation.

Under the draft, recent head votes would select the chain head, while separate validator attestations would finalize blocks when they reach the required quorum. The draft also identifies preparation for a future post-quantum transition as a goal.

Faster finality was also a priority in an earlier Ethereum redesign.
