A Besu maintainer tested Ethereum’s proposed state-tree change on a Glamsterdam mainnet shadow fork, examining whether the design can shrink proofs, improve state handling and help nodes operate without missed slots.

Under the proposal, Ethereum would move from the Merkle Patricia Trie to a Partitioned Binary Tree (PBT). The test ran on glamsterdam-pbt-1, a shadow fork for the planned upgrade.

Glamsterdam activated on the Sepolia testnet on Oct. 6. EconoTimes previously covered the Hoodi test postponement. Mainnet deployment is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, but no activation date has been set.
