The euro was little changed against the U.S. dollar Tuesday as traders watched midterm voting, a new U.S. jobs report and conflicting reports about a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran. FXStreet quoted EUR/USD near 1.1180, down 0.10%, at 10:06:40 a.m. ET (15:06:40 GMT) on Nov. 3, after the pair briefly moved above 1.1200 on Nov. 2.
The Nov. 3 vote put control of both chambers of Congress at stake. Voters were choosing every member of the House of Representatives and about a third of the Senate. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its September Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey at 10 a.m. ET, counting 7.523 million openings against a revised 7.190 million in August. The BLS described September’s level as little changed. Its release came about six minutes before FXStreet’s market quote.
Iran-related reports offered different accounts of military action and diplomacy. The Associated Press cited a U.S. official who said American forces had hit Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz. AP also relayed Iranian state media reports of explosions on Qeshm and Hengam islands and near Bandar Abbas. Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported, citing sources, that Washington and Tehran had made concessions involving Iran’s nuclear program and frozen funds; that account was unconfirmed. Reuters separately reported that a senior Iranian official said the two countries remained far from a deal.
The Federal Reserve held its federal funds target range at 3.75% to 4.00% on Oct. 28, following a quarter-point increase on Sept. 16. The European Central Bank (ECB) kept its deposit rate at 2.50% on Oct. 29, alongside unchanged main refinancing and marginal lending rates of 2.65% and 2.90%. The ECB said higher energy prices could add to inflation pressures while weighing on growth.
The next JOLTS release, covering October, is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2026, at 10 a.m. ET.
