FLSmidth & Co. A/S has appointed Gonzalo Del Carpio R. chief operational excellence officer, expanding his role as the mining supplier plans to pursue organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

Del Carpio will join the executive leadership team when he takes up the post Nov. 1. He will continue to lead Global Business Services until then, the company said in its announcement Monday.

FLSmidth said its growth plans will require more consistent operations and stronger execution as the business expands. CEO Toni Laaksonen said Del Carpio will focus on the company’s digital and technology systems, responsible adoption of artificial intelligence and the effectiveness of support functions across the business.

Del Carpio joined FLSmidth in 2019 as global head of mergers and acquisitions, overseeing its deal activity. He later moved to Global Business Services, where his work has included simplifying operations and improving business performance.

Before joining FLSmidth, he spent 14 years in J.P. Morgan’s investment banking division. There, he advised companies and private equity clients on deals, restructurings and strategic changes.

His appointment to the new role takes effect Nov. 1.
