Factory plans to release HumanLayer as open-source software as the coding-agent collaboration platform joins its enterprise AI business, and users will be able to choose among three ways to continue.

Factory announced the move Nov. 4. HumanLayer provides a platform for working with coding agents, while Factory develops AI software engineering for enterprise customers. The move also brings Dex Horthy and Kyle Mistele to Factory, the announcement said.

People using HumanLayer may take their data outside the service, move to Factory or run the software on their own systems. Factory also plans to release an open-source version of HumanLayer.
