Axios reported on Oct. 22, citing multiple sources, that Visa had discussed buying Fireblocks for about $2.5 billion, but Fireblocks disputed the account at the time and Visa declined to comment.

Fireblocks sells software that helps financial institutions move stablecoins, settle transactions and safeguard digital assets. Axios described access to those capabilities as a potential benefit for Visa. The report also situated the discussions amid a broader move by traditional finance companies toward stablecoins. EconoTimes has previously covered Fireblocks’ tools for digital-asset custody.

“This is news to us, and not true at present time,” a Fireblocks spokesperson said Thursday. Axios reported that Visa declined to comment.

Fireblocks raised $550 million in January 2022 at an $8 billion valuation, according to the company’s funding announcement. That financing valuation does not establish a sale price. Axios described the reported $2.5 billion figure as a potential deal value, not a confirmed offer.
