Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro said a passport order restricts his travel as he vowed to oppose President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after losing Sunday’s presidential runoff.
Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) declared Lula the winner of the Oct. 25 runoff with 64,256,232 votes, or 51.79% of valid ballots. Bolsonaro received 59,826,041 votes, or 48.21%, the court said.
Bolsonaro said he would seek to annul the result, alleging that longer voting hours on Sunday favored Lula. TSE President Kassio Nunes Marques said the extension did not change the result, as EconoTimes’ earlier report on the TSE’s response detailed.
In a video posted to Instagram Monday, Bolsonaro said authorities had ordered him to give up his passports and barred him from leaving Brazil. The Buenos Aires Times reported Tuesday that he linked the order to remarks by his brother, former lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro, about leaving Brazil after an election loss. Flávio denied saying he would leave Brazil if he lost and said he would organize opposition to Lula’s government.
