Flooding after heavy rain has killed five people, including four children, and left five missing in Syria, the Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry said in an announcement carried by state news agency SANA.

The ministry said Civil Defense teams rescued 25 people across Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Homs. In a separate count, it recorded 15 rescues and 375 families evacuated from flood-hit camps in Raqqa by 4:30 p.m. ET (20:30 UTC) Wednesday. The two rescue figures came from separate accounts and cover different scopes.

The report linked the flooding to heavy rain and flash floods in several areas. More than 100 families were affected in Kasrat Surur after an earthen drainage crossing collapsed, leaving residents surrounded by floodwater, the ministry said. Searches for missing people were continuing, the report said.
