Former Reform UK aide Dan Jukes said Nigel Farage’s £5 million Brexit reward claim was “not the line to take from the press office,” The Guardian reported, as a disclosure review remains pending.

Verbatim recorded the undercover footage that The Guardian published. Jukes had left Reform UK, according to the newspaper. Farage made the reward explanation in a May 14 interview with The Sun, The Guardian reported.

The Guardian identified Christopher Harborne as the giver of the £5 million gift. It reported that a parliamentary watchdog is considering whether Farage should have declared it.

In the footage, an undercover reporter suggested that people did not mind Farage making money from politics. Jukes called that view “a bit priced in.” The exchange records Jukes responding to the suggestion; it does not establish that Farage made a profit from politics.

The watchdog’s decision is pending, The Guardian reported. The report gave no date for a ruling.
