A four-hour snapshot on Oct. 20 showed crypto liquidations concentrated in short positions.

Short liquidations were valued at $140 million, compared with $15.11 million in long liquidations. The four-hour period fell within the broader 24-hour tally, which reached $267 million and covered 64,522 traders. The four-hour total was about 58% of the 24-hour amount.

The largest single liquidation reported was $11.96 million on Binance’s BTCUSDT market, a trading pair for Bitcoin (BTC).

Short trades are designed to gain value when prices fall; long trades benefit when prices rise. Liquidation refers to the forced closing of a leveraged position after margin requirements are not met. The $140 million figure describes the value of liquidated short positions, not verified realized losses for traders.
