France 24 reported Saturday that Oleksandr Merezhko, chair of Ukraine's parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, called for U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff to resign as diplomatic efforts over Russia's war continued.

The broadcaster's guest listing identifies Merezhko as a member of the Servant of the People party. A further round involving Washington, Kyiv and Moscow is planned for next month after Moscow agreed to restart negotiations on Wednesday, France 24 reported.

The broadcaster said Kyiv and Moscow agreed Friday to a localized ceasefire near Oleshky, a Russian-occupied town in Ukraine's southern Kherson region. It reported that first lady Melania Trump brokered the arrangement.
