France's Interior Ministry said police arrested 1,314 people during Oct. 24 protests across France over living costs, with clashes injuring 53 officers, France 24 reported Sunday.
More than 400,000 people protested across the country, the report said, citing the ministry. Police responded to 75 fires, and 24 shops were looted. The ministry also said several investigations had opened.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said late Saturday that two protesters suffered serious injuries, one in Toulouse and one in Clermont-Ferrand. The ministry's Sunday statement did not give a total for protesters injured.
EconoTimes previously covered security preparations for the Oct. 24 protests. France 24 described the demonstrations as the second consecutive weekend of unrest.
A presidential vote is due in April and May, France 24 reported, as Macron approaches the maximum of two terms.
