France’s draft budget for 2027 projects €91.2 billion in public interest costs, while lawmakers prepare to vote on the revenue section as the government targets a deficit of 5% of GDP.
The government’s budget presentation puts interest costs at €79.2 billion for 2026 and €91.2 billion for 2027. The proposal sets a 5% deficit target for 2027, against a government projection of 5.4% in 2026. The 2027 figure is a proposed target and the 2026 figure a forecast; neither is final.
France’s National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) reported that public debt under the Maastricht definition reached €3.5955 trillion when Q2 2026 ended, €59.6 billion above its Q1 level. The debt equaled 119% of gross domestic product, according to INSEE’s release.
Under the National Assembly’s timetable, lawmakers are due to vote Tuesday, Oct. 20, on the bill’s first section, which covers revenue. A vote on the full budget is scheduled for Nov. 17, with Nov. 18 possible if lawmakers have not finished reviewing the spending section.
