GXO Logistics, Inc. opened a logistics hub in Medini, Malaysia, on Oct. 27, expanding its Asia Pacific footprint in an economic zone near regional manufacturing and trade routes.

The facility is already the regional logistics base for a global supplier of equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, GXO said. The site is designed for customers in technology and advanced industrial sectors.

Medini’s position gives customers access to Free Trade Zone benefits and nearby manufacturing centers, ports and airports, according to GXO. The company said those links can help businesses place inventory closer to markets, strengthen supply networks and reduce operating costs. GXO also said access to regional routes could give customers greater flexibility and resilience.

Michael Jacobs, GXO’s chief executive for the Americas and Asia Pacific, said the Medini opening supports the company’s effort to grow in a market it views as dynamic. He said the site brings logistics services closer to important manufacturing, technology and trade centers. Scott Copeland, the company’s managing director for Asia Pacific, said manufacturers are seeking to keep inventory nearer to regional demand. Copeland also pointed to connections with ports and manufacturing centers in Singapore and southern Malaysia as a way to serve regional and global markets.

GXO describes itself as the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider. The company says it has more than 150,000 team members and over 1,000 facilities covering more than 200 million square feet. It is headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut.

GXO is considering further features for the site, including newer warehouse technologies. The company said these options could improve supply chain visibility and customer coordination. That evaluation is the next step GXO has identified for the Medini facility.
