Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said XRP (XRP) can serve as an intermediary on some cross-currency payments, letting routes avoid U.S. dollar conversion when that suits customers.

Garlinghouse made the remarks in an interview released Wednesday, Oct. 28, describing XRP as “a bridge asset between different currency pairs.” He did not name any pairs or disclose transaction volumes.

The share of Ripple USD (RLUSD) issued on the XRP Ledger stood at roughly half when Garlinghouse spoke; he did not state the amount in tokens or dollars. RLUSD is Ripple’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin.

XRP Ledger documentation says routing a payment through XRP may reduce costs if liquidity is adequate throughout the route.

Garlinghouse previously described XRP and RLUSD as complementary assets at Ripple Swell 2026, as EconoTimes reported in its earlier coverage.
