Gate founder 韩林 outlined a proposed custody design that spreads control across a user’s device, Gate and a recovery provider, while adding withdrawal safeguards and a recovery route for service disruptions.
Each party — the user’s device, Gate and the recovery provider — would hold one key share, so no one party would control the full private key, 韩林 said.
The plan would place withdrawals on hold for 48 hours. During that window, users could freeze a transfer before it went through.
The proposal outlines two ways to regain access. During a Gate service interruption, users could put the share on their device together with the provider’s share into open-source recovery software to retrieve assets. That route uses two of the shares; the overall custody design still includes a separate share held by Gate.
Users who lost a device or forgot a backup password could get help from Gate and the recovery provider after identity verification.
韩林 said Gate was willing to discuss the proposal and questions arising from real user situations with other companies.
