Germany is planning a state-backed Nvidia partnership to develop industrial AI models and physical AI for training robots and autonomous vehicles, Handelsblatt reported, with public investment expected in the hundreds of millions of euros.
The Oct. 15 report said Berlin would cover computing capacity and model training through Deutsche Telekom’s Industrial AI Cloud in Munich. Handelsblatt said Nvidia was expected to contribute engineers. The paper also reported interest from about a dozen German companies, including Siemens, Audi and Black Forest Labs.
Handelsblatt connected the proposal to Soofi (Sovereign Open Source Foundation Models), a German consortium of research organizations, universities and AI companies. The new effort would pair the consortium with computing resources and engineering support for industrial AI development.
Germany announced the Industrial AI Cloud project in June 2025, following a Berlin meeting between Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Deutsche Telekom said the Munich site began operating in February 2026, equipped with almost 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs. Nvidia and data-center operator Polarise helped develop the facility.
Deutsche Telekom and Nvidia announced the cloud as a private-sector project worth €1 billion in November 2025. Handelsblatt said the government’s prospective investment would fund computing capacity and model training for the planned initiative.
Handelsblatt reported the announcement is planned for next week’s Invest in Germany event in Berlin; Huang is expected to attend.
