Glance said Oct. 21 that viewers in the United States, India and Japan can opt into its AI shopping service on supported Android TV devices, bringing a retail feature to television screens.

The experience is optional: viewers must select Glance’s ambient screen in place of Google Backdrop. Glance did not specify compatible TV models or manufacturers.

On the idle screen, viewers can browse high-definition material about fashion, travel, food, wellness and other lifestyle subjects. The company says its “Shop the Look” feature lets users purchase items through retail partners.

Glance said a shopping agent is designed to connect product discovery across televisions and mobile devices. The company described its system as drawing on hundreds of retailer integrations, but did not identify the retailers.

The Google arrangement adds to Glance’s TV distribution partnerships with Airtel and DIRECTV. The companies presented the idle screen as a way to add utility to Android TV and expand Glance’s reach. They announced no commercial terms, adoption targets or expected sales.
