Global Geopolitical Series: Britain reaffirms disagreement while U.S. embassy opens in Jerusalem

United States’ closest ally, the United Kingdom has once again criticized the U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision on Monday as the United States’ officials gathered in celebration of the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

On Monday, British Prime Minister’s office released a statement saying that they are committed to the current Iran nuclear agreement and announced that the country has no plans to follow the United States in shifting the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem. According to the statement, the British embassy in Israel will remain in Tel Aviv unless a final peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians are reached.

Britain has opposed President Trump’s decision from the very beginning and warned the United States that such a move could trigger fresh violence in the Middle East. According to reports, as many as 60 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces as the protest against the U.S. decision continues and the Palestinians continue to march to cross Israeli borders accusing the state of forcefully occupying what they describe as their land.

The United States officially moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Monday.
