Global Geopolitical Series: China announces retaliatory tariffs on 106 U.S. products

The ongoing trade dispute between the United States and China continues to escalate as China announced that it would impose retaliatory and reciprocal tariffs on as many as 106 products originating in the United States, after Trump administration announced last night that the United States would impose 25 percent tariffs on as many as 1300 Chinese goods, which accounted for $50 billion imports. According to China’s finance ministry, the implementation date will be determined by the implementation of the US government's additional tariffs on Chinese products and will be announced separately. U.S. tariffs are set to go live after 22nd May.

China’s finance ministry reportedly said that American measures violate the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and well as China’s legal rights.
