Global Geopolitical Series: Jared Kushner to visit Mexico as special envoy after talks between Trump and Nieto reportedly collapsed

President Donald Trump’s one of the most trusted advisors, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who is reportedly playing a very crucial part in Middle East peace negotiations would be visiting Mexico on Wednesday, just days after the prospect of a meeting between President Trump and Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto collapsed following a difficult 50-minute phone call between the two leaders.

According to a brief statement from the Mexican government, Mr. Kushner will make a working visit as a special envoy of President Trump and will be accompanied by State Department and US National Security Council officials. Mr. Kushner will meet Mr. Peña Nieto and hold a working meeting with Luis Videgaray, the foreign minister, who has been trying hard to build personal and warm relation with Mr. Kushner.

Though Mr. Nieto met with then-candidate Trump, but both have refused to meet the other, as the two remain at loggerheads over the payments of the border wall along Mexico-U.S. border, North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), illegal immigration along the Southern border, and drug cartels of Mexico.
