President Trump released security aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) which was withheld over a State Department review of U.S. assistance to Ramallah and Palestinian Authority’s refusal to accept the United States as a neutral mediator after President Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel instead of Palestinian’s.
A state department official has told the press that the State Department has been given green signal to move ahead with the transfer of around $61 million, in security assistance, specifically earmarked for international narcotics and law enforcement as well as non-proliferation, anti-terrorism and demining funding. The fund has also given citing Palestinian Authority’s security cooperation with Israel, which according to the State Department is continuing despite recent tensions.
This could be the first sign that the heated rhetoric between the PA and the United States is finally coming to an end, which could pave the way for the peace negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians with Russia and the United States as mediators.
