Palestinian Authority (PA), the responsible body for negotiations on behalf of the Palestinians scored a major diplomatic victory this week as Paraguay, which is among the few nations that promised to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem has taken a decision to reverse course. In a surprise announcement on Wednesday, Paraguay’s Foreign Minister Luis Alberto Castiglioni said Paraguay has reversed a decision to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds. Paraguay was one of the two states, the other one being Guatemala that followed in the footsteps of the United States in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The reverse decision is taken by the new government in Paraguay.
The decision angered the Israeli government, which in turn announced that it would be closing down its own embassy in Paraguay. But it was a joyous day for the Palestinians and especially for PA leaders who hailed the move and called it a fruit of intense lobbying effort.
The move comes as a pressure to the United States, which is finding itself increasingly isolated on the move and as the Trump administration has so far failed to bring the PA leaders back to the negotiating table despite all efforts including financial pressure.
