Global geopolitical Series: Iran plans to bring international lawsuit against U.S. over ISIS attacks

Iran is planning to sue the United States in the International arena over the recent terrorist attacks by ISIS militants citing indirect involvement of the United States. Iran is planning to use the comments from the U.S. President Donald Trump where he accused the previous administration and Hillary Clinton of its involvement in creating ISIS, which is locally called Daesh.

During 2016 election campaign, then-candidate Trump said, “Hillary Clinton created ISIS with Obama…..You [Hillary Clinton] were secretary of state when it [ISIS] was a little infant. Now, it’s in over 30 countries, and you’re going to stop them? I don’t think so”. Trump also blamed United States’ premature withdrawal from Iraq as one of the key reasons behind the growth of ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Now, Iran is planning to use those accusations into the lawsuit blaming Washington for its role in orchestrating terrorist attacks on Iran’s Parliament and the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in Tehran in June 2017, for which ISIS claimed responsibility. At least 17 people were killed and dozens were injured in gun and bomb attacks at the Iranian Parliament and the Imam Khomeini Mausoleum.

The move came in response to a court claim that Iran provided technical assistance, training and planning to the Al-Qaeda operatives that conducted the 9/11 attacks.
