The Gearbox-published action RPG “Godfall” launched on PC and exclusively on the PS5 console last fall. However, the game has since been rumored to be available on more platforms, and it appears that a PS4 release is first in line.

‘Godfall’ is rated for PS4 suggesting a multi-gen console launch

Speculations about the game’s PS4 launch have started to pique over the last few days after Twisted Voxel spotted that “Godfall” has been rated for the old-gen console by the Pan European Game Information (PEGI). A screenshot of the age rating shows it is described as an action role-playing game that lets players take the role of “the last of the Valorian knights.”

Not surprisingly, the game received the same age rating -- PEGI 16 -- as it did for its PS5 and PC versions. The content rating institution has also labeled “Godfall” as having content that depicts violence.

What’s more interesting about the spotted PEGI rating is the indicated release date of “Godfall” on PS4. The website suggested that the game would have gone live on the last-gen console last April 23. To this day, however, Gearbox, developer Counterplay Games, and Sony have yet to make any official announcement.

Since “Godfall” launched last fall, the game received mixed reviews from users and critics. Per the aggregated critics' scores on Metacritic, the game received an average of 59 on PC and 61 PS5. Rates provided by users are much lower 3.8 and 4.9, respectively. The game is generally lauded for its visuals, art, and animation. However, many were not as generous in their observations about its gameplay, especially the combat system.

‘Godfall’ rumored for Xbox Game Pass, Google Stadia release in 2021

Meanwhile, this is not the first time “Godfall” was reported to be launching on consoles other than PS5. A 4Chan rumor emerged online last month claiming that the game would be released on Xbox Series X/S in May or June, while there is also a purported plan to make it available through Xbox Game Pass. The same source said a Google Stadia launch is in the works and could be announced in “late 2021.”

Rumors, especially those coming from 4Chan, should be taken with a grain of salt. But there have been official indications before that “Godfall” is only timed-exclusive on PS5. In a teaser from early November 2020, Sony hinted that the PS5 exclusivity would only last “at least until 05/12/2021.”
