An Oct. 28 departure deadline for actor Imran Khan Pal took center stage at a Bombay High Court hearing Tuesday, where government counsel said authorities would take no coercive action before the case returns on Nov. 2.
Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh gave the assurance after senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond drew attention to the deadline. The court adjourned the petition to Monday, Nov. 2. LiveLaw reported that the assurance did not appear in the court’s short order.
The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) notice identifies Khan as a U.S. national, sets Wednesday, Oct. 28, as his departure deadline and says he allegedly contravened provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
India Today and NDTV Profit linked the notice to Khan’s alleged presence at an Oct. 10 protest in Mumbai calling for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Khan’s petition challenges the notice and denies that he took part in the protest. The Bombay High Court has not ruled on the merits of his challenge and is scheduled to hear the case again Monday, Nov. 2.
