Guide to today’s important data and events

Lot of economic dockets be released today and some with high risks associated.

Data released so far 

  • Australia - Private sector credit rose 6.6% in December, from a year ago. Producer price index rose 1.9% y/y in fourth quarter.
  • Japan - Bank of Japan (BOJ) introduced negative interest rates. Japan vehicle production dropped -2.3% y/y in December. Housing starts dropped -1.3% y/y in December. Construction orders rose 14.8% in December from a year ago.
  • France - GDP rose 0.2% in fourth quarter.
  • Germany - Retail sales dropped -0.2% in December, up 1.5% from a year ago.

Upcoming 

  • France - Producer prices and consumer spending will be released at 7:45 GMT.
     
  • Spain - Flash HICP for January to be released at 8:00 GMT. GDP for fourth quarter to be released at 8:00 GMT. Current account balance will be released at 9:00 GMT.
     
  • Switzerland - KOF leading indicator to be released at 8:00 GMT.
     
  • Italy - Producer price index for December will be released at 9:00 GMT.
     
  • Euro Zone - Private loans and M3 money supply will be released at 9:00 GMT. Flash reading on consumer price index will be released at 10:00 GMT.
     
  • Greece - Retail sales for November and producer price index for December to be released at 10:00 GMT.
     
  • India - Federal deficit might get announced today.
     
  • US - Flash GDP reading for fourth quarter to be released at 13:30 GMT, along with employment cost index and Goods trade balance. Chicago PMI will be released at 14:45 GMT. Michigan consumer sentiment will be published 15:00 GMT.
     
  • Canada - Raw material price index to be released at 13:30 GMT, along with Industrial product price and GDP for November.
