The Global Cybersecurity Alliance said Oct. 19 that it had established a research center with the University of Hong Kong focused on securing artificial intelligence and applying it to cyber defense.
The Global Cybersecurity Alliance (GCSA) said the Centre for AI and Cybersecurity Research would bring together research capabilities and professional resources from both organizations. Its agenda includes setting standards and governance for AI security, assessing risks from embodied AI, robotics and the Internet of Things, protecting large language models and generative AI, and automating cyber threat response with AI.
GCSA named Professor Ho Chen, the University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) Chair of Cybersecurity, as acting director. Chen said AI’s rapid development brings “security risks and governance challenges.”
The center plans to release research findings, security benchmarks and open-source tools over time. GCSA did not give a publication schedule, funding details or a formal opening date.
GCSA’s website refers to the HKU collaboration as the AI and Cybersecurity Research Institute, while its announcement uses the name Centre for AI and Cybersecurity Research.
