Palestinian education data show that Israeli raids and movement restrictions disrupted classroom learning for 2,872 students across the Hebron area, while Anadolu Agency reported the operation reached its eighth day Friday.
The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), citing the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Hebron Education Directorate, reported that 2,872 students lost in-person instruction at 66 schools across the Hebron area during October’s fourth week. The tally listed 2,198 pupils in areas under direct siege, with another 674 displaced students unable to reach school. WAFA said closures and repeated incursions led schools to use take-home assignments and remote classes from Sunday through Thursday.
WAFA also reported that teachers and support staff were affected. Citing the Hebron Chamber of Commerce, the agency put losses from the closures at 10 million to 12 million shekels a day.
Anadolu Agency reported Friday that Israeli forces remained in the operation’s eighth consecutive day. The agency said troops raided Jilada and Ain Deir Baha. Witnesses told Anadolu that troops announced over loudspeakers that Ain Deir Baha was a closed military zone; they also said dozens of residents had been made to leave their homes. WAFA separately reported that entrances to Hebron remained closed and forces continued home searches in areas under closure.
Hebron Municipality said Tuesday, Oct. 27, that 4,969 Palestinians from 780 families had been displaced, a count covered in EconoTimes’ earlier report on the tally. In a separate Friday update, WAFA described more than 780 affected families, including 537 fully displaced families, and about 5,000 people facing siege or displacement. That update used a different measure from the municipality’s Tuesday displacement count.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in an Oct. 27 statement that its forces were searching homes tied to the attackers and other suspects in cordoned sections of Hebron and Halhul. The army said the operation followed an Oct. 23 shooting that killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded several others.
