Hecht Says Election Outcome May Not End Financial Market Swings

His Nov. 3 outlook covered cryptocurrencies and other assets. Separate Bitcoin options data showed annualized implied volatility of 35% to 37.8% across three time windows on Oct. 26.

Andrew Hecht said Tuesday that market volatility may last for weeks or months beyond the U.S. midterms, encompassing cryptocurrencies and other assets regardless of the result.

Seeking Alpha published Hecht’s Nov. 3 forecast. In July, he had linked possible market swings to uncertainty over the election; his newer view allowed for volatility to continue whatever the outcome. EconoTimes previously reported on dollar-related political risks that could continue past the midterms, citing Commerzbank currency analyst Thu Lan Nguyen.

Block Scholes’ Oct. 26 calculation, based on Deribit data, put Bitcoin (BTC) annualized at-the-money forward implied volatility at 37.8% for seven to 14 days, 35% for 14 to 30 days and 37.7% for 30 to 60 days. The snapshot was recorded at 5 a.m. ET (09:00 UTC).

The Bitcoin options readings reflect the implied scale of potential price swings during those periods, not their direction. They predate Hecht’s remarks and do not directly measure his broader outlook across asset classes and longer horizons. The figures also do not establish that the election changed implied volatility.
