Hong Kong’s exchange operator is preparing a pilot to gauge whether commodity warehouse receipts can support collateral use, with designated banks expected to take part.

The operator is also developing a tokenization platform for several kinds of assets. Planned coverage includes commodity warehouse receipts from recognized warehouses.

Distributed ledger technology (DLT) is a digital record system shared across participants. Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury 许正宇 said Hong Kong’s tokenization program is shifting toward implementation after an experimental period. The operator is aiming to conduct the pilot in 2027.
