Huawei is proposing a mobile-network core that would route AI-agent tasks according to their service needs and connect them with computing capacity as standards work on 6G architecture continues.
In an Oct. 15 release, Huawei described three service scenarios for a future network: Agent over New Radio (AoNR) for time-sensitive tasks, Wide-Area Computing Network (WCN) to connect computing resources, and Agent Computing Network (ACN) for secure cooperation among agents across domains and ecosystems. The company did not announce an operator deployment or commercial start date. The outline extends Huawei’s earlier AI-native core proposal for agent tasks.
Under Huawei’s proposal, AoNR channels would carry a task’s token output within 50 milliseconds. The company’s broader target is for the first token to arrive less than 400 milliseconds after task submission. Both figures are goals for a proposed system, not operating-network measurements.
Terminals would use intent-based interfaces to communicate their needs for network access, computing resources and service quality. The architecture would place a Data & AI Plane (DAP) beside the control and user planes, while AI would help guide network procedures.
Huawei links the need for low latency to portable devices’ limits in computing power, battery capacity, size and cost. Its technical post says cloud-based processing can handle inference tasks that devices offload. The company says the proposed architecture could also help operators offer intelligent network capabilities and new digital services.
Huawei’s Intelligent World 2035 report projects that the global number of AI agents could reach 900 billion by 2035. That is the company’s forecast, not a count of agents currently in use. In its account of earlier network changes, Huawei points to IP-based core architecture in 2G and 3G, separate control and user planes in 4G, and cloud-native architecture in 5G.
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) lists a 6G architecture study that began June 5, 2025, and is scheduled to end March 3, 2027. That work-item timeline does not show that 3GPP has adopted Huawei’s specific design.
