Hyundai Motor America is recalling 94,622 vehicles in the U.S. market after a front-seat adjustment switch defect was linked to a risk of overheating and fire. The recall covers certain 2015–2016 Hyundai Genesis sedans and 2017–2020 Genesis G80 sedans, assembled in South Korea for sale in the United States.

The switch on non-memory power seats can be dislodged or damaged by an external force and remain engaged, keeping the seat motor running after an occupant leaves the vehicle. Hyundai says prolonged operation may overheat the motor and create a fire risk while the car is parked or being driven.

Hyundai estimates that 1% of the recalled vehicles have the defect. As of its Oct. 1 recall decision, the company reported two U.S. incidents involving an alleged fire and no related crashes or injuries.

Hyundai urges owners to keep the affected cars outside, separated from nearby vehicles and structures, until the repair is finished. The remedy remains under development and will be offered free of charge, regardless of warranty status; Hyundai also says it will reimburse eligible out-of-pocket expenses. Affected vehicle identification numbers became searchable through NHTSA on Oct. 13.

Hyundai’s filing traces the issue to a U.S. report involving a 2018 G80 in December 2021. The company later reviewed alleged thermal events reported in the Korean market in July 2026 before deciding to recall the affected U.S. vehicles on Oct. 1.
