ING Group reported year-over-year growth in third-quarter income and net result Thursday, retaining its 2026 and 2027 targets as lending expansion and a planned Wholesale Banking restructuring shaped the quarter.
Total income was €6,227 million, up 5.6% from €5,898 million in the year-earlier period, according to ING’s results release. Net result rose 3.5% to €1.85 billion. Net result per share reached €0.65, compared with €0.60 a year earlier.
Commercial interest and fee income supported total income, while lower other income partly offset those gains. ING said the decline mainly reflected reduced Treasury income amid market volatility and higher interest rates.
Net core lending grew by €11.0 billion and net core deposits expanded by €12.1 billion. The mobile primary customer count increased by 259,000 during the three-month period.
For 2026, ING kept its target for total income above €24.5 billion and return on tangible equity above 15%. Its 2027 goals remain total income above €26 billion and return on tangible equity above 16%. The bank held Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio guidance at about 13% for both years.
ING plans to reorganize Wholesale Banking to simplify the business and make it easier for clients to work with the bank. The plan is expected to result in around 400 redundancies worldwide from March 1, 2027. ING expects a pre-tax redundancy provision of about €175 million in the fourth quarter of 2026. It estimates annual cost reductions of about €75 million, with the savings fully effective from 2028.
CEO Steven van Rijswijk said ING plans to set out its strategy at the Capital Markets Day on June 14, 2027.
