Türkiye's intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin attended four-nation security talks in Tehran on Monday, Anadolu reported, as Saudi Arabia sought to strengthen mediation over the U.S.-Iran crisis.
The Oct. 26 meeting began with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir also taking part, according to Anadolu.
Ali Bagheri, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, described the visit as part of an effort to build a security framework led by countries in the region. Earlier Anadolu reporting identified regional security as a subject for discussion.
Munir met Iranian officials during mediation discussions in Tehran on Oct. 20. Official accounts of those meetings announced no agreement. The latest talks come amid Saudi Arabia's call for U.S.-Iran negotiations during the delegations' Tehran visit.
Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister for Public Diplomacy Rayed Krimly said the visit was meant to support mediation by Qatar and Pakistan. The Saudi Foreign Ministry said it wanted the effort to help the parties reach an agreement and urged a constructive response to the visit's results.
