The incoming Congress will set the House Financial Services Committee’s digital-assets panel name, scope and membership; whether it makes further changes remains open.

Rep. Bill Huizenga, vice chairman of the full committee, lost to Democratic candidate Sean McCann in a race called Nov. 4. Rep. Bryan Steil, the panel’s chairman, also lost his seat.

House committees are organized anew with each Congress, including decisions about the panel’s structure. The House may retain the panel, revise its duties or end it. The incoming committee plan will show whether it continues and what work it receives.

The House’s 2025 passage of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act received votes from both Steil and Huizenga.
