Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov said Baku talks with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar covered bilateral priorities, following an August partnership upgrade and a $5 billion trade goal for 2030.
The countries upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Aug. 29-30, 2026, visit to Uzbekistan, according to India’s joint statement. Uzbekistan’s president’s office said the governments agreed to work toward $5 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. It also reported that trade exceeded $1 billion in 2025 for the first time.
The leaders assigned their foreign ministers a role in coordinating follow-up on bilateral agreements and priority projects, India’s statement says. The arrangement connects decisions made at the leaders’ level with work between the ministries, though Saidov did not specify which agreements were discussed in Baku.
India’s official outcomes list records 11 agreements and memorandums signed during Modi’s visit. Their subjects include geology and mineral resources, tourism cooperation for 2026-28, economic and financial dialogue, higher education and scientific research. The list describes the areas covered by the signed documents but does not report their implementation status.
Saidov’s Telegram post said the ministers discussed the bilateral agenda and carrying out agreements reached by their leaders. It named no new measure or deadline. The $5 billion trade goal for 2030 is the next stated benchmark in the government accounts.
