Reuters reported that India's Nifty 50 closed at a two-month high on Tuesday, rising 1.58% as oil prices shifted. Mint separately reported an options reading that an analyst said could signal a near-term market peak. National Stock Exchange of India data put the close at 23,810.85, up 370.05 points. The index had advanced for four consecutive sessions, Reuters said.
Reuters linked the broader climb to company results, lower recent crude prices and signs of renewed overseas buying. Foreign portfolio investors were net buyers in four of the preceding five sessions, the outlet reported. Financial shares and private banks led the advance; HDFC Bank rose 3.6% and ICICI Bank gained 2.7%.
Mint reported an aggregate put-call ratio based on Nifty options open interest of 1.52 on Nov. 3, compared with 1.46 on Jan. 5. Rohit Srivastava, founder of IndiaCharts, told Mint the reading could signal a near-term market peak. Mint described a high ratio as a possible sign that the market is overbought.
Other published readings used different time frames or expiry groups. Squawkflow showed 1.20 across all expiries at the Nov. 3 close. TradePulse listed 1.92 for the Nov. 3 expiry at 5:28 a.m. ET (10:28 UTC). Those figures are not directly comparable with Mint's reported aggregate.
Mint also cited earlier readings followed by market declines. It reported that the Nifty fell 16% by October after a 1.46 ratio on Jan. 5, 2026. A 1.50 reading on Sept. 27, 2024, was followed by a 17.25% drop, from 26,277.35 to 21,743.65, by Apr. 7, 2025. The sequences do not show that the options measure caused either decline.
Oil remains a risk for Indian stocks. Reuters put Brent crude near $106 a barrel on Nov. 3, up 1%, after a 7% retreat in the preceding session. The outlet said markets were also following Iran's talks with Qatari mediators and a U.S. attack on Iran's Qeshm island. George Thomas, a fund manager at Quantum Asset Management, told Mint that India's dependence on energy imports makes stocks sensitive to crude prices.
The Federal Election Commission lists Nov. 3 as the date of the U.S. general election, and Reuters identified the midterms as a market watchpoint. Avinash Agarwal, senior vice president and head of equity at Bandhan Life, told Reuters that valuations and earnings could support market performance from current levels.
