The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reported net liquidity absorption of ₹1,99,647.95 crore on Oct. 16, down from Oct. 15, with the figure combining current and outstanding operations.

The RBI classifies a negative net-liquidity reading as absorption. Its Oct. 16 total was ₹42,834 crore smaller than the ₹2,42,481.95 crore recorded on Oct. 15. The measure brings together transactions undertaken that day and operations that remained outstanding.

Transactions executed on Oct. 16 contributed ₹1,51,299 crore of net absorption. Earlier operations still in effect accounted for the remaining ₹48,348.95 crore.

For current-day facilities, the RBI recorded ₹8,316 crore of one-day borrowing under the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF), at a 5.75% rate. Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) placements totaled ₹1,58,474 crore for one day and ₹1,141 crore for three days. Both carried a 5.25% rate.

The outstanding variable-rate reverse-repo operations included ₹18,170 crore for 10 days, maturing Oct. 19, and ₹38,655 crore for 29 days, due Nov. 6. Each had a 5.49% rate.

The RBI's money-market table showed overnight transactions with one-leg volume of ₹15,299.40 crore and a weighted average rate of 5.72%; rates ranged from 4% to 6%. Triparty repo volume in the term segment was ₹5,29,485.75 crore, also at a 5.72% weighted average rate.

Data for scheduled commercial banks put their balances held at the central bank at ₹8,44,129.11 crore on Oct. 16. For the two-week period ending Oct. 31, their required cash reserve averaged ₹8,33,309 crore per day.

The RBI also reported a ₹10,14,401 crore surplus in net durable liquidity as of Sept. 30. Its money-market statistics draw on data from the RBI and Clearing Corporation of India Ltd. (CCIL). The central bank calculates net liquidity by adding repo, MSF and standing liquidity facility amounts, then subtracting reverse-repo and SDF amounts.
