The Indian state government of Andhra Pradesh has partnered with Swedish blockchain startup ChromaWay to build a blockchain solution for land registry system, IBTimes UK reported.

Andhra Pradesh has launched a number of blockchain initiatives to enhance the efficiency of the government processes. The state government has launched blockchain pilot projects in its civil supplies and land records departments. It has also entered into an agreement with WISeKey, a Swiss cybersecurity and IoT company, to explore the implementation of blockchain technology proof-of-concepts (POCs) as pilot projects in various departments.

Existing land registry system are largely centralized and vulnerable to improper or unauthorised manipulation. The government of Andhra Pradesh seeks to address these challenges by using blockchain technology.

The project with ChromaWay will use the startup’s consortium database platform, PostChain. Built from the ground up to support the consortium database architecture, PostChain is open-source, and works together with the most widely used database systems.

In a statement, Mr J A Chowdary, Special Chief Secretary & IT advisor to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, pointed out that there are two blockchain use cases in the areas of Land Registration and Road Transport Authority.

“…the Government of Andhra Pradesh has engaged with startups from across the globe such as Chromaway to run proofs of concept within its own departments,” he said. "The two implemented use cases…are in the areas of Land Registration and Road Transport Authority. Chromaway's expertise and previous implementation in countries such as Sweden has added immense value to our understanding of blockchain."
