The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) gauge rose to 55.5 in October, keeping U.S. manufacturing in expansion for a 10th consecutive month as midterm elections and the jobs report approach.

The index was 54.5 in September. On ISM’s scale, 50 separates expansion from contraction; a reading above that level indicates growth from the prior month. ISM released the October reading at 10 a.m. ET (15:00 UTC) Monday, Nov. 2.

The Employment Index registered 52.4, compared with 52.7 in September, and the Prices Index came in at 75.2 after 77.9. Production reached 59, up from 56.7.

The U.S. midterm elections are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3. The October Employment Situation report is due Friday, Nov. 6, with release set for 8:30 a.m. ET (13:30 UTC).
