NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2017 -- International House, a premier residential community dedicated to preparing the next generation of globally-minded leaders, has been awarded a grant to support its continued efforts in fostering a new generation of globally-minded leaders and increase diversity within that talent pool.
Fund II Foundation has awarded International House a grant of $500,000 to support programming, cultural initiatives, scholarships and outreach in African and African-American communities.
“We are excited to partner with Fund II Foundation in furthering our efforts to prepare Africans and African Americans to assume roles as global leaders capable of enacting positive change,” said International House President and CEO Calvin Sims. “Their support will also help to inform our larger community of international scholars about the important influence of the African and African-American experience, better preparing them as globally-minded leaders.”
In addition, the Foundation’s support will help ensure that I-House can maintain the rich culturally and ethnically diverse community in which residents from all over the world have thrived for more than 93 years. Residents, Trustees and staff of African and African American decent have been an integral part of the I-House legacy since the House first opened its doors in 1924. Actor Roscoe Lee Browne (’49), singer Leontyne Price (’52), author Chinua Achebe ('63), UN Diplomat Ibrahim Gambari ('71), and journalist Mark Mathabane (’85) are all former residents of the House, while Dr. Ralph Bunche (1954-1971), Kenneth I. Chenault (1987-1990) and Ms. Price (1963-1998) all served on the Board of Trustees.
