Iran has designated Britain’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as terrorist organizations and labeled MI6 a hostile group, a move Tehran said took effect Nov. 1 amid disputes over British policy toward Iran.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the measures as reciprocal. It cited Britain’s July 13 decision to place Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) under the State Threats Act 2026. The ministry also accused Britain of supporting the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran by providing access to bases and military facilities, as well as logistical support.

The ministry said an Iranian law covering espionage and cooperation with the “Zionist regime” and hostile countries against Iran’s national security and interests formed the basis for classifying MI6 as hostile. It said separate legislation, framed as a response to the United States’ designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization, covered the designations of Britain’s two armed services.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Britain would bear responsibility for the consequences of its actions.
