Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei said Saturday no new decision had been made on the country’s nuclear doctrine, while a question has been raised about retaining it if fighting resumes.

Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, made the comments in a televised interview with Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Nour News reported. “No new decision has been made regarding a change in our nuclear doctrine,” he said. Rezaei added that the question had been raised whether Iran should retain its previous doctrine if war resumes.

The Associated Press also described Rezaei as saying there had been no decision to change the doctrine. His remarks described the question of retaining the policy if fighting resumes, but announced no change to it.

Rezaei also said he had read a letter from U.S. Vice President JD Vance but had not replied. He was describing his own response, not announcing a reply by the Iranian government.

EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of Iran’s position on U.S. contacts noted that the foreign minister had no plans to meet U.S. officials and cited Tasnim’s report that Iran had received but not answered Vance’s letter.
