Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman Hossein Mohebi said an attack would bring an offensive response, IranWire and Iran International reported, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi tied diplomacy with Washington to evidence of trust-building.
The outlets traced Mohebi’s remarks to an Oct. 21 interview with Student News Network. They reported that he described Iran’s military posture as expanding to include asymmetric operations and action beyond retaliation.
Al Jazeera separately characterized the warning as a threat to invade any country that attacks Iran. IranWire and Iran International described an offensive response but did not report an explicit invasion pledge or name a country as a target.
IranWire reported that Mohebi presented the change as a way to deter military threats, calling its goal “permanent and absolute deterrence.”
Araghchi also warned on X that Washington would face an “even greater strategic failure” if it chose war. He said Iran would need “strong evidence” that the United States wanted to rebuild trust and find a “just solution” before Tehran considered diplomacy again. The post set no date for talks.
