The IRGC said it would extend the confrontation to U.S. bases in the region if Washington continued urging vessels to pass through waterways the Guard described as mined.

The Guard separately claimed four ships tied to Gulf oil transfers were hit. It said three more caught fire after mine strikes near Hormuz.

EconoTimes previously covered an earlier IRGC claim that mines had set two tankers ablaze in the strait. In that earlier account, the International Maritime Organization’s list showed 116 confirmed maritime incidents in the region as of Oct. 20, but did not identify the two tankers.
