A Tehran street display placing an actor in a mock prison cell while wearing a Donald Trump mask has attracted selfie-taking visitors and angry reactions, Agence France Presse (AFP) reported Saturday.
AFP said the installation hangs several stories above Tajrish Square in northern Tehran. The actor wears a prosthetic mask resembling the U.S. president, along with a dark suit and red tie, and moves inside the cell. A nearby screen carries messages accusing the United States of war crimes.
The installation drew both curious visitors and people voicing anger at Trump, according to AFP. Tehran’s municipal authorities said they organized the campaign to keep Iran’s demand for justice before residents.
AFP reported that anti-American propaganda is common across Tehran and authorities have stepped up similar efforts since the war began. Several earlier artworks also gained viral attention, according to the agency.
The conflict began with U.S.-Israeli strikes in February that killed Iran’s supreme leader, AFP reported. Tehran has since called Trump a war criminal and demanded revenge, the agency said. Iran accuses the U.S. president of deliberately targeting civilian locations, including a school and a wedding ceremony, and says dozens of women and children were killed.
Media outlets close to Iranian authorities said the display was designed for continuous operation.
