Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi reiterated his June 30, 2027, deadline for bringing weapons under state control, saying the departure of U.S. troops had removed armed factions’ rationale for retaining them.

In a televised interview Friday, Al-Zaidi said no U.S. troops, including advisers, remained in Iraq. He described the government’s policy as final, the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) reported.

Al-Zaidi said the government had addressed the weapons issue with three groups and was negotiating with four others.
