At least 35 Palestinians lost their homes when Israeli forces demolished a building near the Qalandia refugee camp on Oct. 21, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recorded 1,755 Palestinians displaced by demolitions linked to missing Israeli-issued permits across the West Bank in 2026, including 636 in East Jerusalem. Its Oct. 15 report covered West Bank events through Oct. 12, before the Qalandia demolition.
WAFA said the affected apartments, in Al-Wad north of East Jerusalem, belonged to the Abu Laba family. The Palestinian Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli authorities cited a missing construction permit as the reason for the demolition. WAFA also reported that Israeli forces struck the apartment owners and damaged a vehicle during the operation.
Human Rights Watch said in June that Palestinians face severe barriers to obtaining building permits in East Jerusalem and Area C of the West Bank, which is under full Israeli control. OCHA documented an Oct. 6 demolition in East Jerusalem that displaced 69 people, the largest single incident there since it began keeping records in 2009.
