Israeli Strikes Kill Four in Gaza, Including Two Children

Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least four Palestinians on Sunday, including two children, according to local health officials, as violence continued despite a U.S.-backed ceasefire that took effect in October 2025.

Mohamed Abu Selmia, director of Al Shifa Hospital, said an Israeli airstrike struck a vehicle in western Gaza City, killing Youssef Akila and his 8-year-old daughter, Wafaa. Six other people were wounded in the attack.

An Israeli military spokesperson said the strike targeted a Hamas militant and that the military was reviewing the outcome of the operation.

Additional Israeli attacks were reported later Sunday. Gaza medics said a strike near a telecommunications company east of Gaza City killed at least one man.

In another incident, an Israeli tank attack at a school sheltering displaced Palestinian families killed a 7-year-old girl, according to medics. The reported attacks brought the death toll in Gaza on Sunday to at least four.

The latest casualties come nearly a year after an October 2025 ceasefire backed by the United States brought an end to major fighting between Israel and Hamas. However, Israeli military strikes have continued, with Israel saying its operations are intended to prevent attacks by Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza.

Hamas has accused Israel of repeatedly violating the Gaza ceasefire and obstructing efforts to advance U.S. President Donald Trump’s wider proposal for ending the conflict. The plan also calls for Israeli forces to withdraw and for Hamas to disarm.

More than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began, according to health authorities in the territory, who say most of those killed were civilians.

The Israeli military, meanwhile, says four Israeli soldiers have been killed since the truce took effect.

Hamas generally does not release detailed figures distinguishing between its fighters and civilians among Palestinians killed in Israeli military operations.
